Funeral Arrangements Set for Slain Local Soldier

STOW, Ohio — Funeral arrangements are now set for a local soldier killed last week in Afghanistan.

Redmon Funeral Home director Keith Redmon says that 2nd Lt. David Edward Rylander, 23, of Stow, was killed in action May 2 in Logar Province. Redmon confirmed to Fox 8 News on Tuesday that he had recently met with Rylander’s family.

According to his obituary, calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and again from 6-9 p.m. The next day, his funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. inside The Chapel located at 135 Fir Hill in Akron.

Rylander, an accomplished pianist who was home-schooled, was admitted to the United States Military Academy at West Point in the spring of 2007. His obituary states that he graduated in 2011 with a degree in engineering management.
