(CNN) Shaquille O'Neal has donned many monickers during his basketball career, including Shaq Fu, the Big Aristotle, Superman and Shaqtus. This weekend, he added "Dr. O'Neal" to that list.

The former NBA player graduated from Florida's Barry University on Saturday with a doctorate degree in education focusing on organizational learning and leadership.

He finished with a 3.0 grade GPA.

O'Neal credit his parents for motivating him to continue pursuing an education.

"A lot of people always focus on how great the Golden Gate Bridge looks, but nobody ever talks about the legs so my parents have always been my legs. My father created my athletic side and my mother created my philanthropy side, so you know, everything I do was created by them, and they know best. One thing that can never be taken from you is your education. I mean, I know I couldn't play basketball forever, and they always told me that you have your education and you will always have something to fall back on," O'Neal said.

Shaq retired last year after playing 19 seasons in the NBA.

He says he's not done yet, and might try law school next.
