NORTH CANTON, Ohio – A woman who claimed that she had been shoved into her car and accosted by two men after leaving a local restaurant on Monday night, admitted to police today that she made up the entire incident.

According to information released to Fox 8 News from Chief Stephan Wilder, Laura M. Daugherty, 31, of North Canton, walked into the North Canton Police Station at 8:00 a.m. and admitted to making up the story to detectives.

She was arrested, charged with falsification, and released.

Wilder had told police that after being thrown in the car, the men then drove off. She had told authorities that she was able to escape and flee to her home.

After a thorough investigation, authorities found inconsistencies in Daugherty’s story.

According to the information from Chief Wilder, authorities believe emotional instability in Daugherty’s life prompted the incident.
