CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It's a big night for Cleveland.  The Movie, "The Avengers," which was shot right in downtown, makes its movie screen debut at midnight.

After years and years of build-up, the day is finally here.

"I've been counting down the days until I see. I've been telling all my friends. I'm super excited," said Avengers fan Christopher Cann.

The Avengers, an American superhero film, makes its debut nationwide on Friday.

"They started building up to this in 2008, so this is almost four years of anticipation," said Jared Turk, of Orville.

This is a big movie for Cleveland. The Avengers was taped last summer right along East Ninth Street.

"The Avengers is popular now just because it was filmed in Cleveland, but I love Avengers just because I'm a huge comic book fan," Jerry Dabato said.

"I work at Medical Mutual in downtown Cleveland so last Summer I was able to see a lot of filming going on from inside our building," said Ron Whipple.

One of the reasons The Avengers is so popular here in Cleveland is that a lot of scenes were taped right here in downtown, but for adults, this movie is also popular because it gives them a chance to relive some childhood moments.

"Every fan boy in the world is getting their wish coming up as a kid, collecting comic books, actually seeing those characters come to life is really awesome," Cann said.

"It's the characters that we were able to relate to as kids, and now you get to see them in action," Matthew Schmucker said.

Avengers already grossed $178 million in its international debut, breaking box office records.  Avenger fans expect the action-filled movie to make all kind noise in America.

"I'm guessing it is going to break more records," said Schmucker.

A big moment for Avengers fans and a big moment for Cleveland. It doesn't get any bigger than this.
