COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio's first casino is coming to a city near you!

After months of setbacks, Cleveland's Horseshoe Casino beat the odds. Less than two weeks before opening day, the Horseshoe Casino received the first gaming license in Ohio.

With opening day set for May 14, Cleveland will open its doors before three other casinos that are currently being built in Toledo, Cincinnati and Columbus.

"It's an exciting day for us and the folks in Cleveland," said Matt Cullen, President and Chief Operating Officer of Rock Gaming.

Wednesday afternoon, the Ohio Casino Control Commission held a public hearing in Columbus to approve the gaming and operating license for Cleveland's Horseshoe Casino.

After the vote took place, Cullen said, "We're very honored to be the 1st licensee in the state of Ohio."

Next week, the casino will host a controlled opening that will culminate with a VIP event that will take place on opening day.

"It's going to be a big party. It's going to be a lot of fun. We can showcase exciting things in Cleveland and the opportunity to showcase a historic building and show people a facility they are going to be extremely proud of," said Cullen.
