CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Forty men locally and from around the country were celebrated for their humanitarian efforts at the Positive Plus Women's Support Group's 26th Annual "A Distinguished Gentleman Gala" celebration Sunday.

Among the 40 honored was Fox 8's own Wayne Dawson. The group chose him as an honoree for spending more than 30 years with Fox 8 and creating diverse visibility on air.

"I've been blessed to be at Channel 8 for over 30 years, and during that time, you get a chance to meet a lot of people, and one of the most impressive individuals I've ever met is Yvonne Pointer, who's behind Positive Plus. So it's just a pleasure and honor to honor me tonight along with these other great gentlemen," Wayne said at the event.

Positive Plus Women's Support Group was founded in 1985 by Yvonne Pointer in the wake of the brutal rape and murder of her 14-year-old daughter, Gloria, on December 6, 1984.

The group promotes support groups for young men and women and grants aid to underprivileged youth.
