The owners of the Thistledown horse racing track in North Randall are considering moving it to the Akron area, according to the Governor John Kasich’s office.

The track is owned by the same developers of the Horseshoe Casino opening in downtown Cleveland on May 14th, Rock Ohio Caesars. The company plans to incorporate video slot machines into the racing track and say having the casino and track in such close proximity might encourage competition between the two.

Governor Kasich’s office and Rock Ohio Caesars are also discussing the possibility it might impose on a 50-mile radius restriction on gambling competition with Penn National Gaming, Inc.

The possible move surfaced in an agreement last week that would also bring horse racing tracks to the Dayton and Toledo areas.
