UPDATE: Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino confirmed Wednesday that he is receiving treatment for a prescription medication problem. See below for his statement.

All jokes aside, MTV appears to have a situation to tackle before heading into the 6th season of “Jersey Shore.”

According to TMZ, Mike Sorrentino, better known as “The Situation”, has checked into rehab for a problem with prescription medications.

The reality TV star is reportedly getting treatment at Cirque Lodge in Utah, where many Hollywood celebrities have received care.

TMZ says cast and crew members became concerned for Situation when he acted bizarrely while taping some of Season 5’s episodes.

A rep for Sorrentino, however,  has denied TMZ’s report, saying his client “has spent the past several weeks at an undisclosed location for much needed rest and recuperation.”

On Wednesday, Situation himself released the following statement:

“I have voluntarily taken steps to get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion,” his statement said. “I have spent the past several weeks getting treatment for this problem and recuperating from my work and appearance schedule. I appreciate my fans support and love you guys.”

No word yet from MTV on the future of Season 6.
