Todd Filtz, the former head coach of Maple Heights, was approved as head football coach at Canton McKinley on Monday night, sources confirmed to Fox 8 as Filtz will replace Ron Johnson.

Johnson was not renewed under controversy and the McKinley committee spent an average of 4 hours per candidate in making their choice. The vote was unanimous.

Filtz texted Fox 8 Sports anchor John Telich right after the session, “I am excited and honored to continue the tradition that is Canton McKinley.”

Filtz led the Mustangs of Maple to the State Championship in 2010.
