HINCKLEY, Ohio — Spring unofficially sprung at 7:44 a.m. Thursday as the first buzzard returned to Hinckley, Fox 8 News reports.

The Cleveland Metroparks hosted a homecoming party this morning at the Hinckley Reservation. There, hundreds of visitors watched the skies to catch a glimpse of the initial turkey vulture flying back from its winter roost in the south.

The legend of the buzzards’ return started in the late-1950s when a ranger, for six consecutive years, noted that his first buzzard sighting occurred on March 15.
