Teen Volunteer Killed Driving to Polling Location

EAST UNION TWP., Ohio – An Orrville High School senior was killed on Tuesday as he drove to volunteer at a polling station in Apple Creek, Ohio.

Kyle Sprowls, 19, was headed south on Carr Road in East Union Twp. (near Wooster) around 5:32 a.m.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Sprowls tried to pass an Amish buggy in a no passing zone near a hill.

His Chevrolet Blazer and a GMC Sierra pickup truck collided head-on north of Ely Road.

Sprowls was not wearing a seat belt.

The other driver, Steven Hershberger, 48, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Wooster Community Hospital and later transferred to Akron City Hospital.

The crash is under investigation.
