Goodyear is voluntarily recalling about 40,000 tires due to safety concerns.

The move involves six sizes of Wrangler Silent Armor tires sold in 2009. The company says about 27,000 of the tires may still be in use.

Goodyear says the recall is in response to an internal review of early warning data that could indicate problems with the tires.

“Partial tread separation could lead to vehicle damage when the separated tread strikes the vehicle. A tread separation could also cause tire failure that could result in a motor vehicle crash,” the company stated in its recall summary.

The safety recall is expected to start on or before March 22, 2012.
