My Town: Akron-Canton Airport has Record-Breaking January

GREEN, Ohio — Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) celebrates its 10th record-breaking month in a row.

It was with the busiest January in the airport’s history with nearly 126,000 passengers traveling to and from the airport, which is an increase of 12.6 percent compared to last year.

“We are simply blown away,” said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. “More and more Customers are trying CAK. We hope to keep them coming back with our low fares and relaxing airport experience. We’ll keep working hard to make our new and existing customers feel great about choosing us.”

Passenger traffic was up on nearly all airlines that offer flights out of the airport.

Frontier Airlines — with nonstop flights to Denver — increased 40 percent compared to last year.

Delta — flying to Atlanta and Detroit — increased 21 percent.

AirTran Airways — offering nonstop service to Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Myers, Atlanta, New York, Boston and Milwaukee (new services to Denver starts on June 2 and Chicago Midway starts August 12) — increased 18 percent.

US Airways — flying to Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. (Reagan) — increased by 9 percent.
