PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio --

A Parma Heights man is indicted for trying to poison his father, 84, by pouring Visine into his milk.

Prosecutors say back in December, 56-year-old Byron Shull got upset with his father and decided to seek revenge.

“Traditionally the father drinks milk with each meal. When he got his glass of milk that morning, Byron had put at least one bottle of Visine into the milk,” said Cuyahoga County Assistant Prosecutor Andy Nichol. “At 84 years old, it's a despicable thing to do to someone.”

Although Visine is known to cause diarrhea if ingested, prosecutors say so much was dispensed that the father ended up in the hospital with serious medical problems for nearly a month.

“He certainly knew it was going to have an effect on his dad,” said Nichol.  “The parents of Byron live in an apartment in Parma Heights. Byron moved up here from Florida, and they were kind enough to allow them to live with them, the girlfriend included, she took care of them.”

Byron Shull is charged with felonious assault, domestic violence and contaminating substance for human consumption or use. He is scheduled to be arraigned on February 29.
