SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio —

Search crews say sonar equipment could not find any traces of human remains at the bottom of a reservoir in Portage Lakes, so they called off their search Sunday.

A large search ensued Friday morning after the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said it had received a tip on a particular case. Searchers combed the waters and a nearby island looking for human remains and stolen property including safes and weapons. They found some bones, but the coroner’s office said they were from animals.

The sheriff’s office would not provide details of the case they are investigating.
