LAKE COUNTY, Ohio— A bus carrying members of the Shaw Cardinal High School band caught fire on Monday afternoon along I-90.

Shaw High School Band Director Donshon Wilson tells Fox 8 News that all the members of the band were able to make it off the bus safely. According to Wilson no one was harmed in the bus fire.

Wilson says the band was en-route to perform at a Martin Luther King Day concert in Erie, Pennsylvania.

An official with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department tells Fox 8 News that the Greyhound Bus Line carrying the students caught fire in the 1:00 p.m. hour along I-90.

The bus, according to the official, was carrying 50 students. The fire closed a portion of I-90 eastbound, according to officials with the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Amanda Lee, Public Information Officer for ODOT District 12, says that the interstate is now opened but advises that drivers use caution in the area as traffic remains congested.

Wilson says that the band instruments of several students may have been damaged in the fire. The band has boarded another Greyhound bus and made the concert in time to perform.
