WESTLAKE, Ohio— "Around the world, police officers are accustomed to dealing with certain men who have a fondness for women's undergarments. And apparently it was our turn to encounter one of them here," said Captain Guy Turner, with the Westlake Police Department.

According to Westlake Police, what happened Friday night in the Union Street Parking Garage at Crocker Park was a first.

"A 16-year-old girl was going back to her car and was accosted by a male. He came up behind her and demanded that she give him her pantyhose," said Captain Turner.

Police said the man, in his 20s, demanded the girl's pantyhose so he could supposedly fix his car's exhaust system.

But once he got his hands on her hose, he took off.

Crocker Park has a surveillance system but neither the incident nor the suspect was caught on tape.

That's because the suspect followed the victim into the stairwell.

"I work here and I go up these stairs by myself and that scares me!" said Kaley Kissler, of Avon, after hearing what happened.

"Make sure to go with other people, trail behind them closely, ask for an escort. There's a lot of things that you can do to make yourself safer and avoid an encounter like this," added Captain Turner.

Westlake Police and Crocker Park security scoured the area without finding the suspect.

Crocker Park is cooperating with the investigation.

"I walk around here by myself with the girls. And I park in the parking lots, so it's very strange, and spooky, and gross actually," said Maria Coutris, of Westlake.
