WILLOUGHBY, Ohio— A burglar is caught on tape during a home break-in in Willoughby.

Police say home surveillance video from Dec. 17 shows a male intruder roaming around a home on Beacon Drive in Willoughby.

"I'm very fortunate I have video of the guy," said homeowner Ted Mizner.

Mizner said just a few hours after he left for vacation, a burglar forced open a rear window and made his way inside.

"With the infrared cameras, we really can't tell the race of the individual or the color of the clothing. We do know that he is a male about 5 foot 7 inches tall," said Willoughby Police Lt. Tom Trem.

For ten minutes, the man wandered aimlessly throughout the house. Just before he left the home, he carefully covered up his footprints in the snow.

Mizner said the burglar bypassed all the valuables and instead turned his attention to a lockbox that was left unlocked.

The homeowner said 48 hours later, someone happened to break in to his late mother-in-law's home in Euclid. Now Mizner believes the two break-ins are connected.

"He probably saw a document for sale, maybe her bank account. He probably was going to come over her house and rob her or something in that respect. He broke out the back windows, proceeded to take out all the copper, including the line to the air conditioner which is going to cost a lot of money."

Mizner is hoping the surveillance video will lead to an arrest.

"He was very polite in that he shut the window down to two inches, went back up on the deck, covered his tracks. He's been through this routine before, there's no doubt in my mind," said Mizner. "It's wrong, that's all there is to it, it's wrong."
