Two run-off elections for local mayors were extremely close races.

Councilman Gregory Zilka narrowly defeated Mayor Karl Zuber to become the new mayor of Avon Lake.

There were just 29 votes separating them.

The run-off election was necessary because none of the candidates received at least 50 percent of the votes in the November election.

In the Village of Richfield, Bobbie Beshara won the election, defeating Ralph R. Waszak, Sr.

Only six votes determined the winner.
