Officer Injured Responding to Accident

A Cleveland police officer who responded to an accident Tuesday suffered minor injuries when his car was hit from behind.

The initial accident happened on I-71 north near W. 65th Street around 2:30 p.m.

The officer arrived at the scene and had not yet gotten out of his vehicle when he was hit.

He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

All lanes of I-71 northbound at Ridge Road were closed for a short time but reopened around 4:30 p.m.

The Brooklyn Police Department will investigate the original accident since it falls in that jurisdiction.

The Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit will look into the incident involving the officer.

Other details on the crashes were not immediately released.
