Congratulations to the Kirtland Hornets, who have won the Division V State Football Championship.
Kirtland, who finished 15-0 on the season, defeated Coldwater 28-7 to bring home their first title Friday afternoon.
The Hornets relied on their ground game to emerge with the victory. Senior running back Christian Hauber rumbled for 196 yards, and Damon Washington added 147 more. The Hornets totaled 410 yards on the ground, and just 11 through the air.
They're the first of four Northeast Ohio squads battling for titles this weekend.
The Avon Eagles are trying for their first state football championship. Their game against Trotwood-Madison kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday.
Saturday, St. Ignatius High School tries for its eleventh state championship against Pickerington.
And, Norwayne from Wayne County is also trying to win a state title on Saturday.
