My Town Event: Akron Speakers Discuss How Summer Camp Makes Kids Healthier

Two nationally-known authors, Scott Arizala and Dr. Christopher Thurber, will speak at a FREE program about the benefits of summer camp for kids.  The event, called “How Summer Camp Makes Health Kids in Spirit, Mind and Body, takes place at Akron Childrens’ Hospital on November 19th at 7pm in the Considine Professional Building Auditorium.    Arizala is the chief executive officer of “The Camp Counselor, a camp staff trainer and other of Smore Than Camp.  Thurber is a child psychologist and co-author of The Summer Camp Handbook and has appeared on The Today Show, Martha Steward, CBS News and National Public Radio.  Both will discuss research confirming that summer camp accelerates children’s growth in self-esteem, sense of adventure, social skills and self reliance and will answer questions.  The Considine Professional Building is located at 215 W.
