(CNN) — Jennifer Lopez’s new Bronx-set Fiat commercial is creating quite a stir.

Reports are suggesting that Jenny wasn’t actually filmed on the block in the Bronx as she appears to be in the commercial, which has a storyline focusing on the celeb embracing her roots. Both the star’s rep and representation for the tiny car have given similar statements that are vague as to where J.Lo really was when she filmed the ad.

Lopez’s rep tells CNN that “both commercials featuring Jennifer Lopez were indeed filmed in the Bronx as well as outside locations. As you may know, in today’s world, people are increasingly mobile and their work takes them to a variety of locations. As a result, we took the opportunity to film wherever Ms. Lopez was working at the time to accommodate her schedule.”

Fiat told Jalopnik the same thing, nearly verbatim: “In today’s world, people are increasingly mobile and their work takes them to a variety of locations. As a result, we took the opportunity to film wherever Ms. Lopez was working at the time to accommodate her schedule.”

The Smoking Gun originally reported that Lopez, 42, wasn’t present for the Bronx shoot for “My World,” quoting a local whose barber shop appears in the spot.

This news runs contrary to the spirit of the ad, which is all about how J. Lo is authentic (sorry, she’s “real”), and how she loves spending time in her Bronx neighborhood. We see the star drive “through the streets of Manhattan to the Bronx where she grew up,” reads the Fiat press release, according to the Smoking Gun. Her voiceover tells viewers, “this is my world. This place inspires me.”

But the Smoking Gun claims it was a body double that tooled around the Bronx in a Fiat 500 Cabrio, and Jennifer shot scenes in Los Angeles. The footage was infused with computer-generated imagery to create the illusion of Jenny cruising the block.

However, her rep says those concerned about her filming location are missing the “point” of the ad spot.

“The commercial tells the story of how the simple elements of our upbringing can help explain who we are, where we’re going and serve as a source of inspiration to achieve our goals in life,” the rep says. “One does not need to be in a specific location to be inspired or continue to be inspired.”
