Ohio Governor John Kasich was on hand today at Republic Steel in Lorain as the company announced the installation of a new electric arc furnace that is anticipated to bring 449 new jobs and $1 million in economic activity to the area.

According to Republic Steel, the nation’s leader in the manufacturing of bar quality steel, the furnace comes at a cost of $85.2 million.

Fox 8 News’ Jack Shea reports that all 489 of the company’s current jobs at the Lorain plant will be retained.

Shea reports that a tax incentive deal between the State of Ohio and Republic Steel helped aid in the furnace’s planned installation.
