Man's best friend to the rescue! A pregnant woman found herself face-to-face with a violent attacker when her beloved family pet sprung into action.
Arlee Ice says her dog Cash is getting lots of extra treats these days.
The 21-year-old Elyria woman says around 9 p.m. Tuesday night, she was walking near Broad Street and Concord Avenue in Elyria when a man approached her from behind and tried to grab her shirt. Ice says she was caught off guard because at the time of the attack, she was wearing headphones.
"He started yelling at me, like, 'come here, come here, come with me,' " said Ice. "Somebody grabbed me from behind and I spun around."
The American bulldog/boxer/pitbull mix didn't waste any time trying to protect his owner. Ice says her dog has never bitten anyone before, but as soon as the attacker tried to grab her, Cash started biting the man, who then dropped to the ground.
"He just instinctively went to protect me," said Ice. "He got special treats last night. He got half a box of cookies and some eggs this morning."
Ice says she managed to escape without any injuries. "Everyone's been telling me, 'good thing you have your dog.' As you can tell, he's a pretty good guard dog."
Police are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with information should call the Elyria Police Department.
