The former Duke star gunned home 34 points as Team Chuck beat Team Shaq. Irving hit all eight of his three-point shots to amass that point.

His Cavs teammate, Tristan Thompson, played a solid game as the two young members of the Wine and Gold put on a show.

Irving is the third Cav to earn MVP honors in such a game. Zydrunas Ilgauskas won the honor in 1998, and Daniel Gibson was MVP in 2008.

Irving’s weekend is not over. He takes part in the skills competition on All-Star Saturday Night.

Snow showers will be depositing snow on many backyards Friday night into Saturday. By noon on Saturday, Greater Cleveland will likely have 1-2 inches of accumulation. Areas to the south and west will have less. Folks in the Snowbelt could see 3-6″ where snow showers persist.

“I think mine’s totaled,” Evelyn Henderson said, adding she had just gotten out of her red  SUV and gone inside minutes before.

“I had just got home and come in the house when I heard the noise,” she said.

Henderson hopes the power will be back on before the weekend winter storm really hits.

Meantime, in Akron, a rotten tree was also ripped up by the wind. When Fox 8 News showed up, the tree was still leaning on live power lines.

In Ashtabula, high winds brought down a portion of a brick façade atop a furniture store.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

While Dick was delivering one of his trusted forecasts during Fox 8 News at 6 on Friday, Bayley Patterson, 11, held a birthday party in his honor.

About 25 of her friends gathered at her Stow home where there were decorations, cupcakes and an excited hostess who wore a Woollybear shirt that read, “Happy Birthday Dick Goddard.”

As everyone at the party gathered around to watch Dick’s weather segment on the news, Bayley’s picture popped up on the television screen.

Dick gave Bayley a big shout out and thanked her for hosting the party.

“Amazing! It was cool; I liked it. I’ve never been on TV before!” Bayley said.

Bayley became a huge Dick Goddard fan about two years ago.

She said it all started as she watched his weather forecast one Christmas.

Now she faithfully watches tunes in every weeknight at 6 p.m.

“Bayley is very compassionate, and for whatever reason, she likes to watch him, and she likes the Woollybear Festival and some of the things he talks about, and the pets that he does. So, they do have some things in common that matter to her as well as to him,” explained Bayley’s mom, Leah Patterson.”

Dick also called Bayley on the phone to personally thank her.

He plans to send his loyal fan Woollybear stickers and a t-shirt.

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio –

Three people are now behind bars in connection with the shooting death of teenage mother, Dena-jua Delaney, 18. East Cleveland police say they are still searching for more suspects.

“I’m happy and hope they stay in jail for their lives. They can rot in jail for all I care,” said Delaney’s sister Quinnetta Taylor.

“My baby is gone over some real senseless, some real senseless stuff man. The younger generation, they just don’t have the values to care anymore, everybody wanna be a gangsta,” said Delaney’s father Evans Delaney.

East Cleveland police say the man that pulled the trigger, 18-year-old Robert Robinson, turned himself in Friday night. Delaney was shot in the face, just below her eye.

“We didn’t really know (Robert Robinson), but we knew people he knew,” said Taylor.

“Apparently he hangs around the Hough area and 117th area. He’s a known gang member, affiliation of a gang called the Eskimoes,” said East Cleveland detective Scott Gardner.

Police say the shooting on Garfield Road Wednesday afternoon stemmed from an argument Delaney was involved in the day before.

“It was, like, petty,” said Taylor.

“Just friends, boyfriend/girlfriend type thing. We’re not exactly sure, but we are sure that the family was either targeted or had a little bit to do with this,” said East Cleveland Police Chief Ralph Spotts.

The friction developed into a street fight and Delaney’s sisters say they went to the area to see what was happening. Then, a car with five people inside pulled up.

“We were turning around about to go back to the house, and like, this girl started hollerin’, and people, they shot outside the car window. We was running, and they all stopped, like, ‘Bubs got shot,’ ” said Taylor.

Detectives say shots were fired in many directions by as many as five different people.

“The drivers, the shooters, the people who participated and egged on and incited, some of those folks are going to go away for a long time,” said East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton, Jr.

Delaney’s family says even though they are getting a lot of support, and suspects are in custody, their pain is still raw.

“I’m happy that people care, but it’s not gonna bring my sister back…it still hurt bad,” Taylor said.

“Start just trying to work things out other than pulling guns, ’cause this could’ve been worked out,” said Evans Delaney.

Dena-jua Delaney leaves behind a 7-month-old son. She will be laid to rest Monday afternoon.

East Cleveland police say surveillance cameras at a nearby school recorded the incident, and a red-light camera took video of the suspect’s car speeding away from the scene.

Detectives say that helped them identify who was involved.

Lakewood High School prides itself on a diverse education. But now, its 1,800 students have one extra thing to be proud of: their principal.

Dr. William Wagner has just been named Ohio’s High School Principal of the Year by the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators.

“I’m truly honored,” said Wagner. “A lot of people at this school work very hard and makes this school look very good, and I’m pleased to be able to be principal of the building and work with these individuals.”

Wagner joined the Rangers in 2001 as an assistant principal, but then was named head principal two years later.

Brian Siftar, House 3 principal, nominated Wagner for the award.

“I think his long list of accomplishments speaks for itself,” Siftar said, ”but the great job that he’s done, bringing together our staff, which has very different styles and methodologies together.”

Lakewood High has earned an excellent rating from the State of Ohio six out of the past seven years. Siftar said much of that prestige is due to Wagner’s leadership.

“He’s the first one in and one of the last people out,” Siftar said. “He’s very humble. He does a great job deflecting credit for everything we do very, very well here to the staff.”

Now, Wagner will represent the state at a national conference in the fall. He’s also up for the crème de la crème of educational awards: National Principal of the Year.

“I’m not surprised at all. In terms of leadership, he really wants us to do well and we want to do well for him,” said Spanish teacher Stephanie Boyd. “It’s not about the scores or anything else. He sees the bigger picture.”

Wagner said the award is humbling. However, his biggest goal is to make each student’s experience special, giving them as many opportunities to succeed outside of the classroom.

“Lakewood High School and the community of Lakewood is incredibly dynamic place to be,” Wagner said. “We have students from all walks of life, coming together, working collaboratively … an outstanding staff. To be included in those individuals is a tremendous honor, and I’m pleased just to be recognized.”

Washington (CNN) — Thousands of newly released e-mails from former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin show her frustration with the increasing ethics complaints filed against her and the mounting legal costs her family was personally incurring.

Also there is one tantalizing e-mail from Sept. 26, 2007 — almost a full year before she was tapped for the unsuccessful GOP presidential ticket — with the subject line saying “Marital Problems.” Addressing two of her gubernatorial aides, she said “So speaking of … If we, er, when we get a divorce, does that quell ‘conflict of interest’ accusations about BP?”

That is apparently a reference to the oil company her husband, Todd, worked for. The oil company and the state would have a lot of dealings, but what exactly is meant in referring to the conflict of interest is not clear.

There is no further explanation about whether Palin was being serious or whether it was meant as a joke or sarcasm. Representatives for Palin did not respond to CNN’s request for a comment or context regarding the divorce comment.

The Palins’ martial status has been the source of rumors for years since she emerged on the national stage in 2008.

Several Alaskan websites reported in the summer of 2009 – soon after Palin resigned as governor – that a divorce was impending. Representatives for Palin have in the past vehemently denied any talk of divorce.

A Palin associate told People magazine in August 2009: “No truth to any of the rumors…No divorce. No affairs.” Palin posted on her Facebook page a note saying she and her husband “remain married (and) committed to each other and their family.”

These newly released e-mails also show clearly how frustrated Palin was, in the months leading up to her resignation, with the intense focus on her and the cost of it.

In April 2009, when another ethics complaint was lodged against her, Palin wrote to some aides: “Unflippinbelievable…I’m sending this because you can relate to the bullcrap continuation of the hell these people put the family through.”

Ethics charges against Palin included an allegation she fired Alaska’s public safety commissioner over his failure to fire a state trooper who was involved in a divorce with Palin’s sister, complaints over travel expenses, and whether she used her influence to get a supporter a state government job.

A month earlier, when talking about the numerous Freedom of Information requests made with the state and how to respond to a reporter’s query, she wrote they had cost Alaska over $1 million.

And then she said “We’ve all had to pay for OWN legal defense in this political bloodsport-it’s horrendous-why do you think Todd is on the slope today? i am paying to defend in my capacity as GOVERNOR-actions taking in my official position. This is unheard of anywhere else.” She went on to say “I can’t afford this job.”

In the e-mails, she and her aides also talked about the controversy over her being out of the state in the winter and spring of 2009. One aide e-mailed her indicating Palin had spent a total of 94 days out of Alaska. She was told the number dropped to 84 if Palin’s travel days were counted as “in-state” since she spent at least part of the day there.

These e-mails are part of a second batch of documents released by the state of Alaska as part of a Freedom of Information request, which included CNN, that originated in fall 2008 after Palin became the vice presidential nominee.

This batch mostly covers the period of October 1, 2008, through July 26, 2009, when Palin left office. The state was supposed to release these last fall, but asked for an extension through this month.

The e-mails were released Wednesday to reporters physically located in the state and discs containing them were mailed to the respective media organizations on the same day. The Anchorage Daily News posted copies on its website, and CNN was able to examine them there

(CNN) — Expressing apologies that she can’t accompany him to prom on his birthday, country music beauty Taylor Swift on Friday asked an 18-year-old student with cancer to be her date to the Academy of Country Music Awards in April.

Kevin McGuire was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007 at the age of 13. The cancer was in remission for years before a recent relapse.

Realizing he would lose his hair because of treatment, McGuire was worried about securing a date.

His older sister, Victoria, asked, “What if I got Taylor Swift?”

She started a Facebook page on Tuesday that went viral overnight, garnering more than 93,000 likes and the attention of Swift herself.

In a message left on the Facebook page, Swift said, “Kevin, I’m so sorry but I won’t be able to make it to your prom. But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up. Would you be my date?”

Representatives for Swift confirmed that the message was posted by the singer.

McGuire has a fever and is extremely ill, so he won’t be able to participate in a YouTube video Victoria and his younger brother planned on making in response to Swift.

McGuire, a New Jersey high school student, will be in and out of the hospital the remainder of his senior year and turns 19 on prom night, according to his sister. Taylor Swift won’t be his prom queen, but, if he accepts, he’ll be going as her date to the Academy of Country Music Awards come April 1.

We all have the potential to make costly mistakes behind the wheel when the snow begins to fall. Joe Severini, a Certified Master Technician from Auto Experts in Mentor, said a little care would keep us on the road without incurring unnecessary expense.

Severini said one of the biggest mistakes motorists make is using their windshield wipers when they are buried under snow.

“There’s too much weight on the wipers,” said Severini, explaining that wipers aren’t meant to push anything more heavy than rainfall.

“Wipers have a little motor and a linkage system called a transmission, that’s all made out of plastic. Any kind of weight on those wipers, you try to turn them on with a lot of weight on then that little transmission can’t take that kind of pressure,” he said.

Severini recommended leaving the wipers standing up if snow is in the forecast.

“You can just come by and scrape your window clean, put your wipers down, you’re good to go,” he said.

Severini said extremely low temperatures will zap a battery.  Any mechanic could do a simple test that would show how much life was left in a battery.

“Cold Cranking Amps is the ability of the battery to start a vehicle at zero degrees,” he said.

Severini said a good battery should give a motorist 600 Cold Cranking Amps or CCAs early in its life, and should last about five or six years. He said a battery should be replaced when it’s about 40% low on CCAs. The good news is a dying battery tends to give off warning signs before it goes.

“You’ll start hearing it crank a little slow and think to yourself, ‘There’s something not right there,’ that’s usually a good sign your battery is done.”

Severini also said motorists can’t afford to ignore a throaty rumble coming from the front of the car. It’s an indication of a leaky exhaust, and it’s nothing to mess with in cold temperatures when the windows are rolled up tight.

“You’ll get hot gasses rising up, and it mixes with the fresh air intake for the heater, and that will send carbon monoxide gas into the inside of your car, and that can be very bad for you,” he said.

Finally, if you value a heater in cold weather, Severini recommends you check your antifreeze. If it has what he describes as a chalky, milk-shaky consistency, it needs to be changed, but the CMT recommended motorists not do the work themselves to prevent air pockets from forming.

“An air pocket will cause you to lose your heat–it can cause you to overheat. You don’t have that cooling system properly filled,” he said.

It’s advice that should keep your cold-hard cash in your warm and toasty pocket.

An elderly homeowner took matters into his own hands when he opened fire on a would-be burglar.

The incident can be heard playing out in a 911 call:

Dispatch: “911 Police Ambulance and Fire.”

Caller:  “A guy was breaking into my house and I got a shot off.”

Ted Ziolkowski, 78, of Ashtabula, says he was in the process of fixing up a rental home when a teenage burglar tried to break in late Thursday night.

Recently, Ziolkowski says someone broke into the home and burglarized it.

“Every door in the house was busted. They went upstairs and tore out the brand new carpeting,” said Ziolkowski.

So Thursday, Ziolkowski decided to put in new carpeting.

Because of that, he moved the couch from the living room to the kitchen. That move may have saved his life.

“I was sleeping on the couch when I heard someone outside the kitchen door. I pulled the hammer back on my gun, and there he was. He looked pretty darn big to me, and it was pretty dark, so I fired one shot and my gun jammed and that’s all I could get off. But that’s all I needed. He went down,” said Ziolkowski.

Police say the teenage burglar was shot in the chest. They say he was armed.

“He had a gun on him! If I had missed, I wouldn’t have been here right now,” added Ziolkowski.

Meantime, neighbors are glad that Ziolkowski took matters into his own hands.

“Two other police cars came up because they had broken into this house across the street. And my neighbors say they had broken into their house over there. So I guess we are having a lot of break-ins around here,” said Dwayne Bussey, next-door neighbor.

The teenager was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Ziolkowksi says he had a valid gun permit.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Police officers busted an unlikely drug suspect last month: a Grandmother.

Frances Torres, 67, of Cleveland, was indicted on 16 charges including drug trafficking and selling a controlled substance on or around school premises. She’s accused of dealing various prescriptions drugs, such as oxycodone, between December 28, 2011 and January 13, 2012.

Torres’ grandson, 22-year-old Jacob Bednarski, was also indicted in the case after officers found him with a 9mm semi-automatic weapon. He’s expected in court this week. Torres will be arraigned next month.
