Position Summary:
The Director of News is responsible for overall supervision and management of the News Department and for developing and executing strategies designed to make the station’s news product the audience leader in the market.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Responsible for directing daily news coverage by holding daily editorial meetings.
• Delineates what is expected of reporters and photographers in covering news stories.

• Participate in community service activities, both as a citizen and as a spokesperson for the news department and the station.
• Participate in union negotiations.
• Remain alert to latest trends in news production and coverage both locally and nationwide.
• Work with news management to develop productive work schedules that best utilize all available resources.
• Reviews formats for daily news programs, making suggested changes when necessary.
• Utilize multiple platforms, including broadcast, web, and mobile, to deliver content and engage our viewers on a daily basis
• Use state of the art news-gathering equipment including digital editing systems, graphic technologies, new control room, HD weather, traffic data system to showcase a compelling product

Requirements:
• Minimum 10 years’ of progressive leadership experience in television as a news director or 5 years of newsroom management experience in medium to large market.
• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Business Administration or equivalent experience.
• Candidates should possess experience in strategic project management, marketing and promotions along with experience in News, Digital, (including technology trends in the market including a social media strategy) and brand management.

• Ability to partner with business leaders, develop strong relationships and drive results. Superior organizational skills with an emphasis on data, reporting tools and metrics. Knowledge of budget preparation and maintenance
• Experience managing teams including prioritizing, assigning and overseeing work. High attention to detail, while managing multiple projects

The primary purpose of the web content specialist is to produce and develop mobile, web and broadcast content. Strong candidates need to know how to work on all three platforms. Understand the importance of social networks and the necessity to keep learning all new technology.

Responsibilities:

· Confirm, write stories in AP style and produce local/national stories using information coming from the assignment desk, police Facebook pages and news releases.

· Must know the different social media outlets and how each one works successfully. What content will get the best engagement on each medium.

· Stay on top of trending stories via social media- confirm those stories- find elements we can report with including approved images/video

· Make sure our social media accounts are updated with unique content focusing on each outlets audience. ( Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, You Tube, Google+ and Instagram

· Must be a self –starter who jumps in and knows the elements needed for breaking news, breaking out top stories into multiple content pieces for digital

· Find ways to incorporate more video into stories- must know how to use new technology ( iphone/skype/ipad/etc)

· Must think like a reporter to hunt for unique content that would drive our web traffic and confirm local stories when needed

· Work with on-air staff on breaking out web stories, posting social media content, producing extra elements for web

· Must have strong communication skills to work with producers on cross-promoting web/broadcast elements
