  • Little girl’s wish granted thanks to local police department

    PARMA– A  very itchy month for the Parma Police Department has paid off big time! A group of very dedicated Parma patrol officers participated in No-Shave November this past fall. In a Twitter post Sunday, the Parma Police Department announced that they presented a check  over $6,000 to A Special Wish Foundation. That donation will allow A Special Wish Foundation to send Ella to Disney World! The department thanks everyone who donated to their campaign.

    CLEVELAND-  The Cleveland Orchestra performed its 38th annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration concert Sunday. A sold out crowd enjoyed selections from Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Verdi, as well as traditional hymns such as “Down by the Riverside,” “Precious Lord” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” The 2018 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award was presented in three categories for recognition of services and achievements.   • Firefighters battle blaze at Firestone Mansion in Fairlawn

      FAIRLAWN, Ohio – Numerous fire crews were called out to battle flames at the old Firestone Mansion on Chamberlain Road in Fairlawn late Saturday evening. Fairlawn fire dispatch confirms to Fox 8 that multiple units are on the scene of  a “large” fire at the mansion. No other information was available. Fox 8 has a crew on the way to the scene and we will have details as they become available.

    PIKE TOWNSHIP, Ohio– The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday just after 5 p.m. The accident occurred on Interstate 77 near mile post 97 in Pike Township in Stark County.   • RTA continues to provide free rides to transit centers in bitter cold temperatures

    CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) announced Saturday that it will continue providing free rides to three transit centers and two rail stations and keep them open for 24 hours so people can come in from these bitterly cold temperatures.  RTA said it will provide the free service for one more night with plans to resume regular service hours Sunday.   • Water main break causes portion of Brecksville Road in Independence to close

    INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — A portion of Route 21 — Brecksville Road — in Independence is closed due to a water main break. Police say the portion that is closed is between Rockside and Plaza. John Goersmeyer of the Cleveland Water Department, tells Fox 8 that water is currently shut off in the area. Crews are on their way to make repairs.   • Cleveland firefighters battle multiple fires in frigid temperatures

    CLEVELAND-  Cleveland firefighters battled two house fires at occupied homes Wednesday evening. According to Cleveland Fire Public Information Officer Mike Norman, firefighters responded to the first fire on West 44th around 7:30 p.m.  An 11-year-old boy was transported to the hospital for symptoms of smoke inhalation. The second fire occurred on East 118th at 9:00 p.m.  A 90-year-old man was transported for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported. No further information is available at this time.   • One year old hospitalized after being bitten by dog: Police

    CLEVELAND — A  one year old girl is hospitalized after being bitten by a dog Thursday. It happened after 10pm in the 1000 block of East 74th Street. Police say the child suffered injuries to the face and chest.  She was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children’s for treatment. Her condition is not known at this time. Further details were not immediately released.  

  • Four Mansfield officers on leave after suspect shot

    MANSFIELD- Four Mansfield police officers are on paid administrative leave after a confrontation with a suspect. Just before  7 p.m. Sunday, officers received a distress call in the 100 block of South Mulberry Street. The caller claimed that an intoxicated individual had slit their own wrists. Shortly after arriving on scene, officers confronted the suspect. Officers attempted to use a taser, but were unsuccessful, police said.  During the confrontation, the suspect was shot.
