Kenny is the feature reporter for the award-winning Fox 8 News in The Morning.

Kenny Crumpton arrived at WJW in the winter of 1999 from KJEO-TV in sunny Fresno, Calif. His adventures on Fox 8 News in The Morning started on a cold day. Shortly after viewers toured his "empty" apartment, they found him swimming with dolphins in 19 degree weather!

His antics have placed him standing atop Terminal Tower (575 feet above ground), wrestling a bear, jumping off a 30-foot platform into Lake Erie, skydiving out of a plane at 12,000 feet, riding a circus elephant, feeding a 500 pound tiger "inside" the cage, hanging out in a shark tank with eight sharks and trading steps with Broadway-great Ben Vereen.

When he's not pushing the envelope for viewers, Kenny served on the boards of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's " Halloween Bash" and The Celebrity Soul Food Cook-off. He has also helped raise money for the Easter Seals, United Way Foundation, Cleveland Food Bank, NFL Charities, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Diabetes Association, to name a few.

Kenny started his journalism journey in the summer of 1990 at KFDX in Wichita Falls, Texas. As a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor, Kenny earned two regional first place honors for "Best Spot News Coverage" and "Best Series Reporting.” His five-part series entitled "The Struggle of the African-American Farmer" received honorable mention from the National Association of Black Broadcast Journalists.

During his stint in Fresno, Kenny covered stories receiving national attention. They include the introduction of the nation's first Violent Crime Suppression Unit, the Yosemite Murders, the crashing of a jet in Fresno, the Sierra National Forest Fires and the massive flooding of Central Valley.

While in Fresno, Kenny ran a marathon to raise money and awareness for the Leukemia Society, served on the board of the Fresno Reads program and helped bring awareness to the importance of blood donation and bone-marrow registration.

Kenny's work with the community earned him the Fresno Chapter NAACP Image Award twice, and he was recognized by California Sen. Jim Costa and Fresno Mayor Jim Patterson.

Kenny was born in Ft. Eustis, Va., on an Army base. He is a cum laude graduate of the School of Communications at Howard University.

He loves the outdoors and plays a variety of local organized sports including football, volleyball and softball. Kenny is a self-described snowboarding freak, and also enjoys skydiving, rollerblading and he taught himself to bodysurf in southern California.

He is a percussionist, writes poetry (when inspired) and can be found climbing a rock or two.

    Race: Kenny Crumpton’s Story

Race in America. It’s a subject that’s talked about a lot, but usually in very careful and distant terms. That’s why FOX 8 thought the best way to encourage others to talk about it was to first do so ourselves. Tune in all week to Fox 8 News at 9 a.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. for the special series we are calling, “Race: Our Stories.” Stefani Schaefer continues our series with an in-depth conversation with Kenny Crumpton.
