Police: Woman murdered, missing baby could be with woman claiming to be her mother

HOUSTON, Texas — Police in Houston are asking for help in find a woman who may have taken a six-week-old baby from the home where her mother was murdered and claiming the baby as her own.

According to Fox 26 in Houston, the FBI has deployed its Child Abudction Rapid Deployment Team to find baby Shamali Flores.

An Amber Alert was issued for her on Tuesday.

Police initially thought the baby was with her father, and they put out his name and a description of his vehicle.

He was located in San Antonio without the girl. He denied having anything to do with the murder of his daughter’s mother, ABC 13 in Houston reported.

“I can’t say 100-percent we’re gonna clear him,” Chief Art Acevedo, Houston Police Department, said in a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Fox 26 reported.

The baby’s mother, Carolina Flores, was found stabbed to death inside her apartment. Detectives have taken finger prints.

Police have not released a name or description of a possible suspect in the baby’s kidnapping. But police are asking everyone to be on the lookout.

“Think about anyone who suddenly has a child who you didn’t know was pregnant, or someone who recently lost a child,” Acevedo said, ABC 13 reported. “We want to bring this child back to the family.”
