Chase following home invasion reaches speeds of more than 100 mph

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rocky River police helped catch a home invasion suspect early Monday.

The car crashed into a sign along I-90 eastbound at Hilliard Blvd. Police said the driver got out of the car and ran. Rocky River officers captured him a short time later.

The chase started in Elyria following a home invasion in Lorain.

Elyria police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol chased the suspect along I-90 into Rocky River. At times, the chase reached speeds of 110 miles-per-hour, police said.

Westlake police used Stop Sticks but missed the suspect's vehicle. The tires on an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser were deflated instead.

When the chase ended, police found a passenger in the suspect's vehicle with a gunshot wound. It's unclear who fired the shot. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Investigators also recovered a handgun and items taken in the home invasion.

Lorain police would not provide any additional information on the home invasion.
