WADSWORTH, Ohio -- A prisoner fled custody at his sentencing, caused a family to crash and then lost control of his own vehicle in Wadsworth Wednesday.
According to police, the man was in Wadsworth Municipal Court and sentenced to 90 days in jail. During that sentencing, he ran out of the courtroom and jumped into his car in the parking lot.
A woman was inside the car.
He drove away, heading down Akron Road under the Interstate 76 overpass.
A family of three exiting Interstate 76 crashed their car after being struck by the man.
The suspect then lost control of his vehicle and hit a Speedway gas station sign. The woman in the car was trapped inside and was extricated. The suspect was taken to the hospital.
