Police, federal agents arrest nearly 40 people in Mansfield drug trafficking sting

MANSFIELD -- Police and federal agents arrested about 40 people Wednesday for trafficking in heroin and other drugs.

A press conference to discuss the drug sweep was held Wednesday morning. Authorities said it was the largest drug bust in Mansfield's history.

The federal indictments were unsealed and 39 people were indicted for their roles in two separate conspiracies to obtain large amounts of heroin and in some cases other drugs and then sell the drugs in Mansfield.

According to the indictments, 18 are charged in a 41 count indictment with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin.

In another case, 21 people are charged in a 33 count indictment  with conspiracy to possess with intent  to distribute heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine, and marijuana.

Dozens of Mansfield police officers, Richland County Sheriff Deputies, as well as FBI and DEA agents took part in the raids that started early Wednesday morning.
