Worker who died in Stark County gas explosion identified

BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP, Ohio-- An employee was killed during a gas explosion Monday morning, the Stark County Coroner's Office said.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office said Wesley Johnson, 60, of Wooster, an employee of TransCanada was found dead, at the scene.

The explosion happened just after 10 a.m .on Beth Avenue in Bethlehem Township. That's about 8 miles south of Massillon.

TransCanada described it as an incident during maintenance at the Columbia Gas transmission system meter station. The cause is unknown.

"We are working with local responders to ensure family members are properly notified. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues," TransCanada said in a statement.

Residents were evacuated, but have since been allowed back to their homes.
