PAINESVILLE-A Greyhound bus was one of the vehicles involved in a multi-car pileup between Route 44 and Vrooman Road both eastbound and westbound. That area has been closed due to an accident involving over 50 vehicles.

Greg Carmichael was one of the passengers on the bus. Greg told FOX 8 News,  the bus had left the Greyhound station around 2 p.m. and he was heading home to Buffalo.

Roughly an hour into the ride, the conditions outside started to deteriorate. Greg said a semi hit the bus from behind and it created a domino crash effect.

A number of people on the  bus had to be treated for serious injuries.

The Lake County Sheriff Office said at least 19 people were injured from the 50-car pile-up, 5 of them seriously.

The area between the 205 and and 206 mile markers is closed. Do not expect the crash to be cleared for some time. At around 5 p.m., the Lake County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook that it could be about 4-6 hours minimum before lanes are open again. Then, at around 9 p.m., ODOT said they are hoping to have the area reopened by Friday morning rush hour.
