CLEVELAND– Cleveland City Councilman Kevin Conwell has something he wants you to know. He’s OK. He’s not stuck in a foreign country in desperate need of cash.

Conwell told FOX 8 someone hacked his personal email account and sent out a troubling message under his name. The message said he was stuck in the Philippines and he needed to borrow big money because he couldn’t access his bank account.Kevin Conwell email hacked

It’s the kind of message posted by suspected con artists, which you may have seen over the years many times before.

But Conwell said he had no idea that message had gone out under his name until, “My phone started blowing up.” Friends started bombarding him with phone calls to check on him.

Conwell represents part of Cleveland’s east side including the Glenville neighborhood. He added, “I’ve never even been to the Philippines.”
