Youngstown firefighter shot at scene of house fire

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A Youngstown firefighter was shot and wounded while on the scene of a house fire.

It happened late Monday night in Youngstown.

Police tell WKBN-TV that the firefighter was responding to a house fire in the city at the time of the shooting. As crews were leaving the scene at around 11:30 p.m., shots were fired, and bullets went through the fire truck. The firefighter was shot in the leg.

Police have not released the name of the firefighter, but he is expected to be ok.

No arrests have been made.

But Youngstown Fire Chief John O’Neill told WKBN that police are investigating the incident as a targeted shooting. Police will accompany firefighters to the scene of any fires while the investigation continues.
