AKRON, Ohio — Community members are calling for prayers for the family and friends of four people who tragically lost their lives in a house fire Saturday morning.

The superintendent of Akron Public Schools on Sunday morning released a statement, asking for support for those struggling with the tragedy:

“Please join me in offering prayers to the APS families struggling with overwhelming grief after a fire this morning. An eight year old student from Seiberling CLC and her nine year old sister from Forest Hill CLC died early today in a fire at their home on East Tallmadge Avenue, almost directly across the street from Jennings CLC.  Their parents were also felled by the fire and their 12 year old sister, who attends Hyre CLC, seriously hurt.  We also send our sincere condolences and prayers to the many wonderful members of our educational staff at Seiberling, Forest Hill and Hyre who nurtured, loved and educated these wonderful girls. Carrying with us the same fortunes, challenges and dynamics of a traditional family, Akron Public Schools is among the finest organizations I have ever known when the need for this kind of strength is greatest; we need you all right now to direct some of your attention toward these children, their families and our family, too.”

Additionally, Akron Public Schools has invited community members to attend a prayer vigil service at Celebration Church on Dan Street in Akron today at 6 p.m.
