‘Hipster’ nativity set raising eyebrows…and selling fast

SAN DIEGO, CA - There's a new take on nativity sets this year...one that's raising  eyebrows with some and selling like hotcakes with others.

It's called the Hipster Nativity. It comes complete with a latte-drinking Mary, and a man bun-sporting Joseph (taking a selfie, of course). The three wise men come bearing gifts in Amazon Prime boxes. Did we mention they're riding in on Segways?

There's a solar panel on the roof of the stable.

The sheep has a sweater, the cow is chowing down on gluten-free feed. And the shepherd is listening to his iPod.

The Hipster Nativity set is made by a San Diego company called Modern Nativty. They report that they are selling more than 500 sets a day.

Others are not thrilled with the set, calling it sacrilegious.

“We have quickly found out that this product is very polarizing,” Casey Wright, a co-founder of Modern Nativity, the single-product company behind the idea, told CNBC. “It’s usually, ‘This is hilarious, I need one,’ or ‘This is sacrilegious, I hope you burn in hell,’ and almost nothing in between those two extremes.

It costs $129.99 and it's so popular that there is a limit of three per customer.
