$245,000+ raised at this year’s Meadows Turkey Bowl in Medina

MEDINA, Ohio-- Thanksgiving and football go hand in hand.

But it's the "giving" part that makes the Meadows Turkey Bowl in Medina County so special. Hundreds of folks come together to donate money to help families in need.

What started out as a neighborhood game 27 years ago, now includes the entire community.

All 44 players were able to raise $2,000 or more. Add in community donations and this year's total is more than $245,000. The money goes to St. Vincent DePaul and the families of those with cancer.

Everyone playing on Thursday had the name Beth on their jersey. It's for Beth Mowery, who was concerned for other families, while she battled the disease that claimed her life this year.

"We went through first-hand what families go through with cancer, emotionally, financially. And to be able to lift the burden of other people we raise here, she would love that and would be honored and proud," Alan Mowery, Beth's husband, said.
