AKRON, Ohio-- University of Akron students who live in off-campus housing on Sherman Street are on alert.

"I thought this was a pretty safe area, but I guess it's not.  I will most definitely walk with somebody now," said Breanca Beal, student.

Akron police said an 18-year-old student was walking back to main campus around 4 a.m. Sunday when a man in a silver truck offered her a lift. That's when the woman said the man tried to sexually assault her.

Dispatch:  "Akron 911. Where is your emergency?"

Caller: "I just woke up out of a dead sleep. I hear a woman screaming at the top of the lungs.  I cannot see her.  Somebody help me, help me please!"

The victims reported the man eventually dropped her off on Hammel Street, about two miles away.

"Regardless of where you are walking, it's 2016. You have to be careful no matter where you are walking, especially in this area," said Carmela McArthur, student.

The university sent out an alert to students and staff Thursday afternoon warning them of the incident.

Meantime, police are looking for a man in his 50s or 60s with freckles driving a silver truck.
