WICKLIFFE - There were cheers for strikes, high-fives for spares, and smiles all around at the 8th Annual Wayne Dawson Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon.
A large group of FOX 8 personalities joined an even larger crowd to make this year's event the biggest one yet.
"We are so grateful," says Wayne, a FOX 8 anchor who started the event along with his brother, William, to honor their mother, Annie Dawson.
The money raised goes to scholarships for needy students, and to supply warm coats to children this winter.
"We are so happy to be able to help those who really need it," says William, who is a judge in East Cleveland.
The brothers say it was their mom who taught them the importance of staying in school.
"She was a stickler for education," Wayne says.
And her sons are continuing in her footsteps, by helping to provide scholarships to students.
Nathan Murphy, now a freshman at Kent State, attended the event, and said he knows a college degree "will pay off in the long run."
That's what Annie Dawson always told her boys, and now, they are passing it on.
