Downtown parking sparks big spike in prices and tempers

CLEVELAND, Ohio-- The FOX 8 I-Team found parking prices for the World Series and Cavs home opener sparking tension and tough questions.

At one lot on East 9th across from the stadium, the price to park was $100. So we asked a man with the company running the lot the question some of you have: Isn't that price-gouging?

The man wouldn't identify himself, but said it's what the market would bear. He said, "They got 80 dollars down the street. Look at where you're at."

In fact, other lots near the ballpark charged $80 and $75.

Just one block away though, prices dropped to $50. And then prices dropped even more with more distance from the stadium.

However, at one lot charging $40 tempers flared. A college student saw his car towed In a dispute over the price. He says he normally pays $6. And he thought the attendant demanding $40 was a con man. Yet he was not.

We saw city inspectors out making sure attendants wore something identifying them with a company.

The city says no one was cited.

We met Tom and Colleen Brass paying that $100 price.

He called that "peanuts compared to what we paid for tickets."
