Tribe beats Toronto to go up 3-0 in ALCS!
Final: Cleveland 4, Toronto 2
Starting pitcher Trevor Bauer has been removed from the game after his injured pinky wound opened up and began bleeding.
TORONTO – Cleveland right-hander Trevor Bauer faced only four batters Monday night before being pulled from Game 3 of the AL Championship Series after blood began dripping out of his injured finger.
Bauer had been pushed back two days to Game 3 because he cut his right pinkie on a drone last week. He received stitches, but with two on and two out in the first inning against Toronto on Monday, there was already blood on his hand and coming out of his finger.
He was replaced by Dan Otero after 21 pitches.
Bauer’s early exit likely means Corey Kluber will pitch Game 4 on short rest for Cleveland. Manager Terry Francona had said that was his plan if Bauer’s finger acted up.
Marcus Stroman started for Toronto. He allowed two runs and just four hits over six innings during the AL wild-card game against Baltimore.
The Indians plan to start rookie left-hander Ryan Merritt in the AL Championship Series.
Merritt is slated to pitch either Game 4 or 5, depending on how Trevor Bauer’s injured finger held up. Bauer is starting Game 3 on Monday night.
Manager Terry Francona said if there was no problem with Bauer, Merritt is in line to start Game 4. Francona said if there’s a “malfunction” with Bauer’s finger, then Corey Kluber could come back on short rest for Game 4 on Tuesday and also be available for a potential Game 7.
The 24-year-old Merritt’s major league resume consists of 11 innings in the regular season this year. He made one start.
For the Jays, the ball is going to Marcus Stroman tonight.
Play in the National League Championship Series has left Chicago and is headed to Los Angles. After the Dodgers’ 1-0 win last night, the series is tied at 1-1 with Game 3 Tuesday night in L.A. The star of last night’s outing was lefty Clayton Kershaw, who allowed just two hits over seven innings of work on short rest. All the scoring he needed came on a home run by Adrian Gonzalez in the second inning.
