Cleveland Police officers spring into action after spotting house fire

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It wasn't a smoke detector or a call to 911 that alerted the Cleveland Division of Fire to a house fire.

Instead, it was some alert Cleveland Police officers.

They spotted flames shooting out of the roof of a house on East 113th Street while on patrol around 2:20 a.m. Monday.

According to police, neighbors told the officers the house was occupied.

They banged on the door to alert anybody inside that the house was on fire.

When firefighters arrived, they searched the house and found that nobody was home.

Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control.

Investigators are trying to determine a cause.
