ANTIGO, Wisconsin — Police in Antigo, Wisconsin have reached another dead end in their search for a Wisconsin girl who disappeared in 2009.
The department began investigating a 2009 YouTube video, which had recently gone viral, as a possible link to the disappearance of Kayla Berg.
The video shows a man talking about meeting a girlfriend at the mall, then he opens up a door revealing a woman tied up on the floor and crying.
Early Wednesday, the Anti Police Department posted on its Facebook page that the video is “100% fake.”
“The Antigo Police Department has identified the video producer/camera man, actor and actress in the video,” the post said. “This video has no connection to the disappearance of Kayla Berg.”
Before the video was confirmed to be a fake, Berg’s mother — Hope Sprenger — talked about the video.
“Sounded like her, looked like her. It gave me chills, it’s hard to explain,” said Sprenger.
“If it’s fake, this person has an extremely sick sense of humor,” she said.
“I thought it looked a lot like her. I was trying to focus on some of the facial features. To me it looked a lot like her,” she said. “I pray to God it’s not.”
