If you’re on social media, you’ve probably seen the messages from your favorite celebrities and movie stars telling you to “get out and vote.”

But TV personality Mike Rowe has a different take.

“Voting is a right, not a duty, and not a moral obligation,” Rowe wrote on a recent Facebook post. He was responding to a fan who asked Rowe to urge his fans to vote.

Rowe’s response has gone viral. His post has been liked more than 14,000 times and shared by nearly 7,000 people.

“There’s nothing virtuous or patriotic about voting just for the sake of voting,” he wrote. “And the next time someone tells you otherwise, do me a favor — ask them who they’re voting for. Then tell them you’re voting for their opponent. Then see if they’ll give you a ride to the polls.”
