ORLANDO, FL – It’s the end of an era, as Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom said farewell to the iconic Main Street Electrical Parade on Sunday, October 9, 2016.
According to WDW News Today, the parade debuted on June 17, 1972. It was intended to be a way to keep people in the park after dark, as many folks back then left at around 6 p.m. It was supposed to run only for one summer, but was so popular that it stayed around until the America on Parade show replaced it during the nation’s bicentennial celebrations. The parade returned on June 11, 1977 and went on to take its place in Disney history.
If you want to see the parade in person, you do have one more chance: it will head to Disneyland in California now for a farewell tour there.
