Motorcyclist killed after hit-and-run crash; suspects turned themselves in

ELYRIA-The Elyria Police Department is investigating a deadly accident that happened Thursday morning on State Route 57.

Shortly before 5 a.m., police were called to State Route 57 and Schaden Road for a car vs motorcycle accident. Once on the scene, officers were told that two occupants of the car took off from the area on foot.

The motorcyclist, a 47-year-old man from Lorain, was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Campus, where he later died from his injuries. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family.

The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old man from Lorain, turned himself in to police two hours after the accident. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries. His passenger also turned himself into police later this morning.

Charges are expected to be filed against both the driver and the passenger of the vehicle.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
