Scary clown pranks will lead to serious repercussions in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, Ohio– The Lake County Sheriff’s Office addressed “sinister clown” sightings and the rumors that surround them.

The sheriff’s office posted on its Facebook page that reports and rumors are growing all across the country and are creating alarm for children who hear about them.

“Unfortunately there are people who seem to think this new social media trend is funny, and now are dressing up as scary clowns as some type of prank…

…Whether dressing up as a “scary clown” as a prank, spreading such rumors using social media, or in any manner trying to scare people young or old can be viewed as inducing panic or fear, can be viewed as unlawful, and carries serious repercussions.”

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says it is aware of the recent social media postings, but is not aware of any actual sightings, or any school-wide lockdowns due to clowns outside of schools–which was also a rumor going around.

They suggest parents take a moment to calm their children’s fears about these “school yard rumors.”

If you have any information about this type of suspicious behavior, please call your local police department.
